Installation shot of “Waves and Sound and Light and Play”. Three video pieces, from left to right, “Play Drip” 05:14, “Play Tub” 02:58, “Play Sun” 03:43. Sculpture, “Water Tub, yes you may touch” in the center of the room.  2022

These works exist in two parts, the captured performance with water and the score that was improvised over that footage.

Sound forms longitudinal waves and mechanical waves. Light has been duly debated over time, but has been modeled contemporarily as an electromagnetic wave. They inform each other across the two spacetimes that they originally found form in. They are mediated by water and air in order to give the viewer access to their invisibility.

Waves oscillate. They start from one extreme, move to a point of equilibrium and are just as quickly pushed to the opposite extreme, over and over again, in a perpetual dance. Waves are fundamental in the quantum mechanical systems that inform our existence’s essential unithood. They are the subatomic, invisible glue that allows for all matter to form as any state more complex than a single atom. The fluctuation, non-stagnation and wholly queerness of waves exist to prove that there is nothing concrete or definitive about any aspect of being, down to the universe’s very atoms.
